KDOT is sharing an update on the proposed expansion of Amtrak rail service to Wichita and beyond.  They stated that feed back from the town hall meeting late last year was largely positive and they are also considering connections of the Southwest Chief to not just Wichita and Newton but to also Manhattan and Lawrence.

3. The US Supreme Court today will hear arguments on the fate of bump stocks, a modification that allows semi-automatic rifles to fire continuously with one pull of the trigger. While one side wants to overturn the ban arguing the process is neither automatic nor a “single function of the trigger.” The government disagrees, pointing to a bump stock’s reliance on a gun’s recoil to trigger additional shots per a single press of the trigger. 

4. The Smokehouse Creek wildfire has more than quadrupled in size in the Texas Panhandle, as high winds and dry conditions fueled several big fires in the region, prompting a state disaster declaration and shutting down the nation’s primary nuclear weapons facility.

5. and after extensive research the happiest city in America is ……Freemont, California with Overland Park, Kansas in 2nd place. I question everything about these results. 1 – out of 182 cities, Wichita doesn’t even make the list; 2 – I’ve never heard of Freemont, California; and 3 – Oxnard, California made the list…REALLY…Oxnard sounds like the founders of that city named it after “Rocky Mountain Oysters” and THAT’S TRENDING.
