The Kansas Bureau of Investigation said a former undersheriff has been arrested in Clay County.
The KBI said 55-year-old Harold Stellner of Clay Center turned himself in Friday at the Clay County Jail. He was arrested for mistreatment of a confined person, a misdemeanor.
The KBI said an investigation began last October at the request of the Clay County Sheriff, when evidence was found of an incident that took place September 29th at the jail. It’s believed that Stellner unlawfully struck an inmate during that incident. Stellner’s employment was terminated by the Sheriff’s Office a short time later.
The investigation is continuing, and the Kansas Attorney General’s office is expected to prosecute the case.
