The Kansas State High School Athletic Association has approved the use of a 35-second shot clock on a trial basis for high school basketball games.
Member schools will have the option of using the shot clock for all home boys and girls basketball games at the varsity level during the 2024-25 season. The trial will only take place during the regular season, and if a school chooses to participate in the trial the shot clock will have to be used for all boys and girls varsity games.
The National Federation of State High School Associations approved the use of the shot clock in 2022 for states to adopt. The KSHSAA has surveyed school administrators and coaches since then to get input.
Schools that decide to take part in the trial will have to fill out a short survey after each game to collect data on the use of the shot clock. Schools that want to participate in the trial will have to notify the KSHSAA by October 1st. Data and observations from the season will be collected and evaluated before a decision is made on permanent use of the shot clock.
