Wichita City Council members have approved salaries and job classifications for city employees for 2024.
City employees will receive pay increases ranging from 1.5 to 4 percent, and Wichita police officers will receive increases of more than 13 percent under a contract with the Fraternal Order of Police that was previously approved by the council. Eligible city employees may receive an additional merit step increase up to 2.5 percent.
Council member Bryan Frye said it’s important for the city to stay competitive with a strong demand for workers in other cities across the country. Council member Becky Tuttle said the city is facing competition from other municipalities and from private industry, and it’s important to attract and retain talent. She said the city’s compensation strategy will be a way to continue to provide the high quality of services that residents expect.
