The Sedgwick County Election Office has launched a contest for middle school and high school students to design a new “I Voted” sticker for future elections.
The competition is open to all county students in grades 6-12, and they can enter as many designs as they want. The artwork should be original and non-partisan and it should have the theme of voting and elections in Sedgwick County, the state of Kansas or the United States.
Election Commissioner Laura Rainwater said she got the idea for the contest from the voting stickers used in Johnson County, and she says it’s a way to get young people interested in elections at an early age.
The contest rules and more information is available on the Election Office page at sedgwickcounty.org with the entry forms and parental consent forms. Students can submit their artwork with the forms to the Election Office Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. or they can be mailed to the Election Office, 510 North Main #101, Wichita KS 67203. The deadline for entries is Friday, March 29th.
Rainwater said a panel of judges will evaluate the sticker designs and choose first place, second place and third place entries. The winning artists and their designs will be presented during a Sedgwick County Commission meeting.
The winning design will be the official “I Voted” sticker that will be given to thousands of voters at polling sites during the 2024 election season. Rainwater said many people save their stickers and post photos with them on social media.
