Today, JJ’s Star Spangled Salute honors World War II Veteran Ira “Ike” Schab. Ira was only 21 when the Japanese bombed the naval base on Dec. 7, 1941. More than eight decades after the attack, Ira still recalls the memories, some of which he said aren’t the best to maintain, but he says he doesn’t want to lose those memories. When asked about that day he simply said, “I couldn’t believe it was happening.” Ira says he made the trip to Pearl Harbor this year, “Because I think I owe it to the guys that were there that aren’t there anymore,” he said. “Don’t forget it. Don’t forget it. Just keep it alive. It’s like a living thing.” Thank you for honoring the fallen Ira and THANK YOU for your service.
