The Sedgwick County Election Office has released the official results of the November 7th general election, and they show a sales tax proposal failing in Haysville by only one vote.
The results became official after a vote canvass conducted by Sedgwick County Commissioners last week.
The sales tax proposal in Haysville was for a one cent tax to fund improvements to streets, parks and recreational facilities. It would have taken effect next July. The proposal failed by a vote of 473 to 472. Haysville officials are planning to ask for a recount.
Derby voters approved a one cent sales tax which will go into effect when a current half cent sales tax expires. It will fund improvements for streets, sidewalks, trails, parks and provide for public safety equipment. The vote was 2,488 yes votes to 2,028 no votes.
Voters in Mt. Hope also approved a sales tax with a vote of 134 to 69.
