Today, JJ’s Star Spangled Salute honors the U.S. Marine Corp.  It was on this day in 1775, the Second Continental Congress passed a resolution in Philadelphia to raise two battalions of Continental Marines to serve as landing forces with the fleet. The resolution was passed to support and strengthen U.S. naval forces in the Revolutionary War. And the U.S. Marines were born. In the annual video message, Sgt. Maj. Carlos Ruiz, the 20th sergeant major of the Marine Corp said, “As we come together to celebrate our 248th birthday, I encourage every Marine to reflect on our history, think about the moment when you ask yourself, ‘Do I have what it takes?’ You are on a journey that few have dared to begin.” To all Marines past and present, THANK YOU for your service and sacrifice.
