The Greater Wichita YMCA will be opening a new pickleball facility in Wichita for its members and guests.
With pickleball growing in popularity across the country, YMCA officials worked to open the Pickle Center at the West YMCA, at 6940 Newell near Central and Ridge Road, to provide dedicated courts for open play, classes, workshops and tournaments.
YMCA president and chief executive officer Ronn McMahon said the facility will help meet growing demand and increase the value of Y memberships. The new facility is part of a long-term plan by the YMCA to invest in pickleball beyond the open play schedules currently offered at 24 courts over 10 locations.
An open house was held at the Pickle Center on Saturday.
