Today, JJ’s Star Spangled Salute honors Army Veteran Linda Fleming.  Her mom, Peggy, was a Marine, so instead of college, Linda’s path led her to the Army. When Linda enlisted, women weren’t part of the U.S. Army, she actually joined the WAC (Women’s Army Corps).  They weren’t given fatigues to wear. Linda worked and lived in Germany and across the United States during her nine-year military career, her first duty assignment was at Fort Riley, Kansas, which is just what she wanted. Close to home. Linda was assigned to the headquarters building where the post commander worked. She was the first female to get an on-the-spot promotion by the post commander, getting promoted to Private First Class. These day, Linda volunteers, giving tours at the Frank Llyod Write Allen House. Thank you for making Kansas proud Linda and THANK YOU for your service.
