In a policy reversal, the Biden administration is waiving federal laws to allow border wall construction in Texas.
The Department of Homeland Security announced the administration is waiving 26 federal laws for wall construction in South Texas due to “high illegal entry.” The move comes as a surge of migrants is straining federal and local resources.
The U.S is resuming direct deportation flights of Venezuelan migrants. On Thursday, a Biden administration official announced any Venezuelans who illegally cross the border and “do not establish a legal basis to remain” in the US will be flown back to their home country.
Last month, the Biden administration offered a temporary protected status and work authorization to anyone from Venezuela who’s lived in the US before August. Venezuelans in federal custody who arrived to the US the last three months will be deported next week. Customs and Border Protection says they’ve encountered over six-thousand Venezuelan migrants entering the country in a single day.
