Oliver Anthony is a songwriter from Farmville, VA where he lives with his 3 dogs on a plot of land that he hopes to raise livestock on. A week ago no one really heard of him – that is until his song, “Rich Men North of Richmond” went super viral (times a million).
Luke Combs, Luke Bryan and many other stars are talking about him because he managed to knock Jason Aldean’s “Try That in a Small Town” out of the number-one spot on the iTunes Top Songs chart. Heck, at one point on Sunday (8/13) half the songs in the top 30 were his.
He channels all the angst of the American working man and sums up that frustration in a song that resonates with people for very real reasons. He’s got more songs, just search YouTube and you find similar performances. Each one showcases sincere sentiments, and honest emotion while displaying his gifted songwriting abilities.
But it is that voice you have to take seriously. Packed with emotion and raw lyrics. You have to respect his passion and the pain in his voice. It cuts like a knife. As of Monday – the video was approaching ten million views in just a few days. Some media outlets are branding this song a right-wing anthem. You can read that story here.
Oh, and he played his “First Ever Gig” over the weekend. and JAMIE JOHNSON stopped by! You can see that video below.
