The Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office was recently notified of a new phone scam.

The scam reportedly involves someone identifying himself as an employee of the Sheriff’s Office, going by the name “Sergeant Jackson.”

So far, the targets of the scam have primarily been registered offenders who were called and told they have a warrant for their arrest for failing to submit DNA.  The scammers have asked to meet the victims in person with cash in front of the jail as well as the Offender Registration Unit office. Other victims have been instructed to meet at local gas stations to pay cash bonds for their warrants.

The Sheriff’s Office warning residents to never give your personal information out to someone who calls you and to not pay someone over the phone with a credit card, debit card, gift card or prepaid debit card, or with crypto-currency unless you initiated the purchase.

The Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office does NOT collect fines by phone. If you receive a call and want to verify its legitimacy, you can contact the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office at (316) 660-3900.  If you have been a victim of this scam, you’re advised to call the local law enforcement agency in your jurisdiction.
