The National Transportation Safety Board has issued a report on a May plane crash that killed a Wichita pilot.
A 1963 Cessna 172 aircraft went down on May 16th in a field northeast of Chambers, in Holt County, Nebraska. The plane was on a flight from Newton, Kansas to Glen Ullin, North Dakota. The crash killed 69-year-old Mark Gietzen of Wichita, known as a Republican Party leader and anti-abortion advocate.
The NTSB report said several witnesses reported seeing a plane flying low over a residential area on the day of the crash. There were low clouds and a mist over the area at the time and the plane had its landing light on.
There were no records on a flight plan or any indication that Gietzen had obtained a weather brief.
