A day after announcing that Wichita would get seasonal flights to Miami, Florida, American Airlines has announced plans to begin daily flights to Washington, D.C.

The formal announcement was made Friday by Kansas Senator Jerry Moran during a news conference at Eisenhower National Airport.  He said the flights will begin on January 8th, 2024.   The flight will leave Reagan National Airport at 11:30 a.m. Eastern Time and arrive in Wichita at 1:45 p.m. Central Time.    The flight will leave Wichita at 3:30 p.m. Central Time and arrive in Washington at 7:15 p.m. Eastern Time.  Ticket sales begin online Saturday, July 15th.

Moran said the new flights represent local growth in Wichita and the attention that south central Kansas is receiving from national and international businesses, military and federal agencies.   He said the new flights will make it easier for federal officials to quickly travel to Wichita to see the area’s manufacturing and educational capabilities.

American recently announced daily flights to Phoenix beginning November 5th and there will be seasonal flights from Wichita to Miami, Florida starting in November and continuing through March.  Nate Gatten, the executive vice president of American Airlines, said the new routes will provide Kansans greater access to American’s global network.  He said air travelers to Wichita will have access to five major hubs:  Phoenix Sky Harbor, Dallas-Fort Worth, Chicago O’Hare, Miami and D.C.    Gatten said expanded air service will help attract business, it will help local leaders in creating economic opportunities, and it will strengthen the community.
