Wichita Police arrested a 22-year-old Wichita man on a charge of felony hit and run, stemming from a vehicle vs. pedestrian collision that fatally injured 70-year-old Nancy McDonough-Harmening from Wichita.
Police said that officers responded to the intersection of N. Roosevelt and E. Douglas around 5:25 p.m. Sunday. There they found McDonough-Harmening laying in the street unresponsive. She was transported to a local hospital where she was later pronounced dead by medical staff.
Investigators later learned that the victim was crossing Douglas from the south side of Roosevelt towards the north when she was struck by a white Mercury Grand Marquis traveling westbound on Douglas. The driver did not stop.
Multiple people witnessed the accident and rendered aid to the victim.
The driver returned to the scene roughly 20 minutes after the incident and was arrested.
The investigation is ongoing.
