A 21-year-old Wichita man is in jail in connection to his mother’s death.
Officers were called to a home near Central and Edgemoor around 5:15 p.m. Tuesday. They found 46-year-old Kacy Joel, of Wichita, in a back yard with visible injuries. She was taken to a hospital and later died from her injuries.
Witnesses told police they saw Joel’s son running from the scene. Police were able to quickly find the son. He was reportedly armed with a knife and saying he wanted police to kill him. Officers were able to get the man to put knife down and he was arrested without incident. He has since been booked into jail for first-degree murder.
Police say the witnesses and quick action by the officers led to the speedy arrest.
This case will be turned over to the District Attorney’s Office where formal charges will be decided.
