NFL legend Jim Brown has died in his Los Angeles home of undisclosed causes, his wife has announced. He was 87 years old.

Brown played for the Cleveland Browns for nine seasons before retiring in 1966. During that time, he led the league in rushing eight times, was a Pro Bowler each of his nine seasons and was named a first-team All-Pro on eight occasions. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1971.

But Brown was more than just a football player. As a civil rights activist, he was responsible for the infamous “Ali Summit” in 1967, which saw several Black athletes assemble to address civil rights issues.

Brown also founded the Amer-I-Can Foundation to fight Southern California’s gang violence and regularly spoke out on a wide range of social issues.

And finally, Brown was an actor, appearing in a total of 55 movies and TV shows, according to IMDB.
