Loretta Lynn recorded over 60 studio albums and won numerous awards, including eight Grammy Awards, three Academy of Country Music Awards, and a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Country Music Association. She was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1988 and the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1993.
Lynn was born in Butcher Holler, Kentucky, a small coal-mining community. She was the seventh of eight children born to Clara (née Ramey) and Wilburn Van Meter “Mooney” Lynn. Her father was a coal miner and her mother was a homemaker. Lynn began singing at a young age and learned to play the guitar from her father.

A little more about Loretta’s life:
In 1948, Lynn married Oliver “Doolittle” Lynn, a coal miner and service station owner. The couple had six children together: Betty Sue, Jack Benny, Ernest Ray, Peggy Sue, Patsy Cline, and Loretta Lynn Jr. Lynn began performing at local events and on radio shows in the early 1950s. She signed with Decca Records in 1960 and released her debut single, “Honky Tonk Girl,” in 1960. The song was a hit and helped to launch her career.
Lynn went on to record a string of hit singles throughout the 1960s and 1970s, including “Don’t Come Home A-Drinkin’ (With Lovin’ On Your Mind),” “Coal Miner’s Daughter,” “The Pill,” “A Woman’s Touch,” and “Rated X.” Her songs often dealt with topics that were considered taboo at the time, such as divorce, abortion, and infidelity. This made her a controversial figure, but it also helped to make her one of the most popular and influential country music singers of all time.
In addition to her singing career, Lynn has also had a successful acting career. She starred in the 1976 film “Coal Miner’s Daughter,” which was based on her autobiography of the same name. She also appeared in the films “The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas” (1982) and “Rhinestone” (1984).
Lynn continued to record and tour throughout her career. She released her most recent album, “Van Lear Rose,” in 2004. She was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2013.
