Eight people were killed and at least 7 were wounded after a gunman opened fire outside a shopping mall in Allen, Texas (about 25 miles north of downtown Dallas) on Saturday.

The gunman reportedly exited a silver sedan and began shooting people at the Dallas-area outlet mall before being killed by a police officer who was nearby on an unrelated call.

Some of the victims were said be children, though details have not been made immediately available. Witnesses said they also saw what appeared to be a police officer and a mall security guard unconscious on the ground.

Dashcam video that circulated online showed the gunman getting out of a car and shooting at people on the sidewalk before driving off.

Authorities said seven people including the shooter died at the scene. Nine victims were taken to area hospitals, but two of them died. Three of the wounded were in critical condition in the evening, and four were listed as stable.

The Allen Police officer who was in the area reportedly heard shots just after 3:30 p.m. According to Allen PD’s Facebook page, the officer engaged the suspect and neutralized the threat before calling for emergency personnel.

This is the 198th mass shooting so far in 223; which is classified as an incident in which an attacker kills or injures four or more people in a short period of time.

Emergency crews from surrounding areas responded to the scene, along with the Dallas office of the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
