UPDATE: The man involved in Thursday’s standoff surrendered shortly after tear gas was used. Negotiators worked at the scene for nearly six hours before man gave up. No serious injuries were reported to the suspect or law enforcement.
Police have surrounded a west Wichita home after a man locked himself inside and made threatening statements.
Officers were called to a home in the 300 block of North Walnut around 2:30 Thursday afternoon. A bondsman went to the home to arrest a man on a felony warrant, but the man threatened to shoot the bondsman. The bondsman was injured while trying to get into the home, and he was taken to a hospital for treatment.
Police blocked the area to traffic and residents were told to leave the area or shelter in place in their homes. A SWAT team was called to the home to try to talk the man into surrendering.
