An unidentified man was shot and killed by a Goddard police officer after a chase Monday morning.
The officer tried to stop a car for reckless driving around 9:45 a.m. and that led to a brief chase, which ended on 63rd Street South near 183rd Street West. The driver got out of the car with a handgun and approached the officer. Police Chief Lance Beagley said the officer gave several commands for the man to drop the gun, but he refused and continued to move toward the officer. The officer fired a shot, striking the man.
The officer involved in the shooting has been placed on leave, and the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office was called in to help with the investigation.
