The Wichita Art Museum is opening its first major exhibition of the year that features paper re-creations of historical costumes.

The exhibit is called “Isabelle de Borchgrave: Fashioning Art from Paper,” and it features life size sculptures created from painted, pleated, crumpled and manipulated paper. The sculptures are the work of Belgian artist Isabelle de Borchgrave, and the exhibit features more than 100 artworks focusing on costume and fashion history.

The exhibit opens Saturday, February 18th and runs through May 14th.

Two special events are planned for opening day Saturday:

· Curator Talk at 2 pm with Dennita Sewell, an accomplished fashion curator who served as collections manager at the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute and curator of fashion design at the Phoenix Art Museum

· Dance performances at 1 pm and 3 pm by Ballet Wichita of original creations choreographed and directed by Ballet Wichita Artistic Director David Justin

· Admission to the talk and the performances is free.
