Hutchinson Regional Medical Center announced this week that it’s laying off employees.
Hospital officials said the cuts are due to the increasing costs of supplies and decreasing inpatient demand, but highlighted specifically the lingering impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The hospital currently employs around 1,350 staff, and it’s estimated that roughly 85 employees will lose their jobs (around 5%). Most of the layoffs will be in the administrative and support services department.
The cuts at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center are a reflection of what’s happening nationwide, with Hutchinson Regional officials also citing lower health insurance reimbursement rates compared to before the COVID-19 pandemic.
