TC Energy says an oil pipeline leak in northern Kansas appears to be the result of welding flaw and stress on the pipeline.
An update from TC Energy Thursday morning says testing and inspections were completed on the failed section of pipe, but the flaw led to a crack which spread over time as the pipe flexed. Further inspections are being done on sections of the pipeline that experience similar conditions, to make sure more cracks don’t develop. The operating pressure of the pipeline has also been reduced.
Originally, it was estimated about 14,000 barrels worth of oil had lead. TC Energy has revised that number to 12,937 barrels.
