Sumner County sheriff’s deputies said a man was killed over the weekend when a dog stepped on a hunting rifle, causing it to go off.
The accident happened around 10 a.m. Saturday near 80th Street South and River Road. Deputies said a man was sitting in the front passenger seat of a pickup, when a dog stepped on a rifle in the back seat. The rifle fired, and the man was hit in the back. He was pronounced dead at the scene. His name has not been released.
