Wichita City Council member Jeff Blubaugh says he will not run for the mayor’s office this year, and instead he will prepare to run for the District 2 seat on the Sedgwick County Commission in 2024.

Blubaugh is finishing his second term on the City Council, and he will not be able to run again because of term limits.   He said in a press release Monday that a number of people have asked him to run for mayor, and he has talked about that possibility with his family, but he feels he can best serve the community by running for County Commission to serve southwest Wichita and the communities of Haysville and Clearwater.   He has named State Representative Nick Hoheisel as the treasurer for his campaign for the Republican nomination for County Commission in the 2024 elections.

The District 2 county commission seat is now held by Democrat Sarah Lopez.
