There was a heavy fire response to a large barn fire east of El Dorado overnight.
The fire was reported shortly after 9 p.m., in the 800 block of SE Pioneer Road, near Highway 54 and Bluestem. Arriving fire crews found heavy flames coming from a 5,700 square-foot barn. Due to the barn’s size, crews were only able to fight the fire from the outside.
The barn was in a rural area without hydrants, so crews from eight different departments worked to bring in water. This involved about 20 vehicles and 38 firefighters. The fire was brought under control shortly after midnight.
There were no injuries reported, but the barn was totally destroyed. Officials are not yet sure how the fire started.
