Students at Wichita North High School have voted on a new mascot to represent the school at sporting events and other activities.

Students voted Thursday and selected one of four options:  North Stars, Red Hawks, Red Storm and Wolfpack.   The results of the vote will be announced later and the new mascot will be in place for the 2023-24 school year.

The winning name is replacing the former “Redskins” mascot which is being phased out over concerns from school district officials that the name is offensive to Native Americans.  The Kansas State Board of Education has been urging school districts to replace mascot names and brands that could be considered offensive.
