A Sedgwick County Sheriff’s deputy died in a crash Friday night

The Kansas Highway Patrol said a two-vehicle crash was reported around 9:30 p.m. near 29th Street North and 135th West, just outside Maize.

One of the drivers, Deputy Sidnee Carter, was pronounced dead at the scene.  A second person suffered serious injuries and was taken to a hospital.

Sheriff Jeff Easter said the deputy was driving southbound on 135th Street West on her way to a disturbance call, and her patrol car was hit by a vehicle heading westbound on 29th.   The Kansas Highway Patrol is investigating the crash and further details are not known at this time.

Deputy Carter served in the Detention Facility for a year and half before transferring to the Law Enforcement Bureau in February, 2022.  She graduated from the Law Enforcement Academy on July 21st.

Sheriff Easter said Deputy Carter was extremely friendly, always helpful, and well respected by her peers and supervisors.   He said she “had that bearing about her that she just made other people want to be better.”  She leaves behind her parents, sisters and brothers.

Condolences can be sent to the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office, 141 West Elm, Wichita, KS 67203, Attention: Robin Bush.   Easter said the Sheriff’s Office is working with the family on funeral arrangements.

The Honore Adversis Foundation will be accepting donations on behalf of Deputy Carter’s family.   Donations can be made on the Foundation’s website at www.honorduringadversity.org with a note for Deputy Sidnee Carter.    Donations can also be mailed to the Honore Adversis Foundation, 477 N. Seneca, Wichita, KS 67203, and donors are asked to write “Deputy Sidnee Carter” in the memo line of the check.   The Foundation is also planning several fundraising events in the coming days.
