Prairie Fire Marathon to Impact Downtown Travel this Weekend

The Wichita Prairie Fire Marathon, Half Marathon and 5K races are this Sunday, Oct. 9th, and the 9-mile course will impact travel in the city. Runners from 33 states, Canada and Ireland have signed up for the race.

WPD and volunteers will be at intersections to control traffic along the route.

Officials are advising residents to avoid the race routes if they do not wish to encounter delays.

Road crews will begin setting the course at 3:00 a.m. with the races starting at 7:30 a.m.  Crews will begin reopening streets after marathon runners have cleared an area on their second loop.

CROSSING DOUGLAS:

Crews will begin placing barricades for the course at 3:00 a.m. on Sunday. If you need to cross Douglas prior to 7:30 a.m., please use Broadway, Washington, or Hillside. Once WPD arrive for their assignment, the following intersections will also open for north and south bound traffic: Hydraulic, Grove and Oliver.

9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.  Packet Pickup at Wave, 650 E. 2nd Street, Wichita KS 67202 (On-site registration available).

SUNDAY, OCTOBER 9

7:30 a.m. Prairie Fire Marathon & Half Marathon Start

7:50 a.m. 5K and Friendly 5K Start

8:50 a.m. 5K Awards inside WAVE

10:00 a.m.  Half Marathon Awards inside WAVE

10:50 a.m. Entrance to the 2nd loop closes for Marathoners.

11:30 a.m.  Marathon Awards inside WAVE

2:30 p.m.  Course Closes
