The Kansas Highway Patrol said three people were killed when their pickup made a U-turn on a highway and was hit by another vehicle. The crash was reported around 3:30 Tuesday afternoon in Dickinson County.
The Patrol said a pickup was going south on K-15 at 1500 Avenue, 6 miles south of Abilene, when it made a U-turn and was hit by a semi. The pickup went into a ditch and flipped onto its roof. The semi went into a ditch and came to rest in a field.
The crash killed the driver, 54-year-old Joel Hynes of Junction City. The two passengers were also dead at the scene, and they were identified as 64-year-old Mary Hynes of Junction City and 78-year-old John Hynes of Coal Valley, Illinois.
The semi driver had minor injuries.
