With construction set to begin on the Amidon bridge next week, the Wichita Fire Department is building a temporary station in northwest Wichita.
Construction work will close the Amidon Street Bridge on Monday, September 19th. It will be fully closed beginning the first week of October.
The living quarters for WFD temporary Station 23 have been assembled and the garage for the engine is being constructed. Officials said they expect occupancy in the beginning of October.
The temporary station, located near the corner of 13th and West, aims to cut down response times over the next 18 months for locations being affected by the Amidon Bridge improvement plan.
