The KBI is announcing new DNA evidence in a double murder case out of Great Bend from 2002.
On September 4, Great Bend officers were called to the Dolly Madison Bakery. A delivery driver had found Mandi Alexander and Mary Drake dead inside the building. A the time, a witness described seeing a white man walking away from the front door of the bakery. He was described as bein about 6-feet tall, weighing 175-pounds, with collar length light brown to blond hair, and a slight beard.
With advances in technology, the case has been reviewed over the past year, leading to the identification of DNA belonging to a man. The DNA sample was not large enough to be matched against known samples in a database, but it can be used to check a person if a name comes up. This has been used to check and rule out people that may have been tied to the case.
Anyone with information that may be relevant in this case can call the KBI at 1-800-KSCRIME. Anonymous tips can also be submitted through the KBI’s website.
