A Kansas man landed a small plane on Interstate 70 southeast of Kansas City, Missouri early Friday, then he was arrested for being intoxicated and for drug charges.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol said the plane ran out of fuel and made an emergency landing around 2:30 a.m. on the westbound lanes of I-70 east of Grain Valley, Missouri. The interstate was closed for over two hours.
The pilot, a 35-year-old man from Prairie Village, Kansas, was treated at a hospital and then arrested. Troopers found marijuana and drugs in the plane along with a gun.
The single-engine Piper Cherokee is owned by Warrior Aviation in Prairie Village. The plane made several trips between Kansas City and Florida before making the emergency landing.
