The Star Spangled Salute is brought to you by
Today’s Star Spangled Salute honors Korean War Navy Veteran Duane Mann. While stationed in Japan, Duane fell in love with a coat check girl at the NCO club where he worked servicing slot machines. The two had plans to marry until Duane was sent back to the U.S. early. After a month of writing letters, the letters stopped because Duane’s mother had been burning them because he didn’t want her son marrying a Japanese girl. All these years later, and after much searching by his family and even some investigating by the History Channel, the two reunited recently and Duane was able to explain why the letters stopped and that he never stopped thinking of her. Congratulations Duane and THANK YOU for your service.
