The Kansas Department of Health and Environment has lifted a boil water advisory for the city of Wichita, which also includes the city of Andover. Other advisories for Derby, Kechi, Valley Center and Rose Hill will remain in place for now.
Testing that was conducted late Tuesday night found no evidence of bacteriological contamination. A problem with filters at Wichita’s water treatment plant resulted in cloudy water, raising a concern for contamination.
The boil water advisory will stay in place for Sedgwick County Rural Water Districts 2 and 3, along with Derby, Kechi, Valley Center and Rose Hill. These water supply systems purchase water from the city of Wichita. Their customers are urged to boil water for one minute before drinking or food preparation.
Wichita Public Works Director Alan King said Wednesday that the city is working with its wholesale customers to help with testing and getting results to KDHE for consideration of lifting the advisory.
