An 18-year-old man was in critical condition after a hit-and-run incident led to a disturbance east of downtown Wichita.
Off-duty officers were reported to be in trouble around 10:30 Saturday night because of a disturbance involving a number of people in the parking lot of a Quik Trip store at Douglas and Washington. Officers went to the area and found an injured man at Douglas and Wabash, a block to the east. He was taken to a hospital with critical injuries.
Police learned that the 18-year-old man had been driving a white truck that was involved in an accident with a black truck near Douglas and Broadway. The black truck went east on Douglas to the Quik Trip, followed by the white truck. The two drivers got into an argument and the driver of the white truck reached into the black truck to try to take the keys from the ignition. The black truck went east to Wabash and then stopped, and that’s where police found the injured man. The driver of the black truck tried to walk away but he was caught by a citizen and held at the scene until police could take him into custody.
Police are still investigating the circumstances of the disturbance.
