A Wichita man died after his car went into the Arkansas River in south Wichita. The accident was reported around 9:15 a.m. on McLean, just south of Pawnee.
The car was partially submerged in the river, and crews got the driver out within a few minutes. He was identified as 58-year-old Christopher Cotter. He was taken to a hospital in very critical condition but was pronounced dead a short time later.
Police said Cotter was driving east on Pawnee when he had a medical emergency and lost control of the vehicle. The crash is still under investigation.
