Wichita police have identified the murder suspect who was arrested at the U.S.-Mexico border at El Paso, Texas.
31-year-old Patricio Gomez is wanted for a fatal shooting that took place on September 30th, 2021 at an extended-stay hotel near Kellogg and Webb Road. Police said 42-year-old Michael Martinez was killed when a fight broke out during a drug deal. Gomez left the scene and another man was arrested and charged with first-degree murder in the case.
The U.S. Border Patrol took Gomez into custody on March 28th after he told an officer that he tried to drive a pickup across the mostly-dry Rio Grande River and got stuck. Gomez was transferred to the El Paso County jail and he is awaiting extradition to Wichita.
