Three children killed in southwest Kansas crash

Three children from an Iowa family were killed Saturday afternoon when the passenger car they were riding in collided with a semi in southwest Kansas.

The crash was reported around 3:30 p.m. on Highway 54 in Ford County, between the communities of Kingsdown and Bucklin.   The Kansas Highway Patrol said a westbound car went left of center for an unknown reason and struck an eastbound semi.

The crash killed 7-year-old Harper Clements, 10-year-old Arabella Clements, and 12-year-old Juno Clements, all from Johnston, Iowa.  The driver of the car, 43-year-old David Clements of West Des Moines, was taken to a Wichita hospital in serious condition.

The driver of the semi, a 30-year-old Oregon man, was not injured.
