A judge in Sedgwick County says a defamation lawsuit can move forward against three former elected officials from Wichita.
The lawsuit was filed by Wichita Mayor Brandon Whipple over a false attack ad that aired on television during his 2019 campaign for mayor. The lawsuit names former Kansas House member Michael Capps, former Wichita City Council member James Clendenin, and former Sedgwick County Commissioner Michael O’Donnell.
The three former lawmakers tried to have the lawsuit dismissed during a court hearing last week, but the judge ruled that the case can go to trial, and he scheduled a trial date for July 11th.
