The President and CEO of the Sedgwick County Zoo is stepping down to take a similar position in Florida.
Dr. Jeff Ettling said he will resign in February and take the position of president and CEO of the Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens.
Dr. Ettling has served with the Sedgwick County Zoo since 2017. He has helped lead the Zoo through a period of growth that began with a strategic master plan in 2018, a new entrance complex, and the newly expanded Slawson Family Asian Big Cat Trek. He has also directed planning for the upcoming Martha C. Buford Safari Express electric train and the Stingray Cove experience.
The Sedgwick County Zoological Society and Sedgwick County will begin a search process for a new president and CEO. Deputy County Manager Tim Kaufman will serve as interim zoo president.
Sedgwick County Commission Chairman David Dennis expressed thanks to Dr. Ettling for leading the Zoo through its 50th year. Dr. Ettling said his experience in Wichita was an opportunity to lead a well-respected and beloved zoo through growth, new exhibits and partnerships.
