Police said a 36-year-old man stole a truck from a home and then crashed into a church in east Wichita Saturday morning.
Police said they were called to a disturbance around 5 a.m. Saturday in the 1800 block of North Kansas, where a resident had the 36-year-old man at gunpoint for getting into the resident’s vehicle. The suspect was taken to a hospital for treatment of an injury, but he later left the hospital against medical advice.
The truck was reported stolen around 8 a.m. in the 600 block of North Waco. A short time later the truck crashed into a church near Orme and Poplar. The man then got out of the truck and entered a home in the 600 block of South Green, stabbing two people inside. A 64-year-old woman died at a hospital after the attack, and a 73-year-old man was treated for serious injuries.
The suspect was arrested a short distance from the house. He was booked into jail on charges of first degree murder, aggravated battery, criminal damage to property, and other charges. Police said the attack appeared to be random, but they are still investigating.
