The Kansas Insurance Department said severe weather in June caused over $42.2 million in damage. The figure is based on a reported 5,470 insurance claims in 101 counties.
The estimates were more than double the property loss payments from June, 2020. So far in 2021, storm losses have added up to over $141.3 million in reported damage.
Storms brought strong winds, hail and flooding across the state during June. The damage included downed trees and power lines in Newton, along with downed trees in Marion County and flooding reported in Goessel. Storm damage was also reported from strong winds in Marysville and the Kansas City area.
