Sedgwick County has appointed an interim medical director for the Emergency Medical Services System, and he will serve on a part-time basis until a permanent director is hired.
Dr. Kevin Brinker previously worked with EMS from 1985 to 1999, as an EMT and then as a paramedic. He rose to the rank of Captain before attending medical school, and he now practices in emergency rooms at Newton Medical Center and Newman Regional Health in Emporia.
This is a separate position from the EMS director. The county recently named Major Kevin Lanterman as the interim EMS director while a regional search is underway for a permanent director. The county has separated EMS from the Medical Director’s office as part of a plan to improve morale and staffing issues.
