Cowley County Sheriff Says Toddler Died From Excessive Heat Exposure

The Cowley County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to the 1800 block of 296th Road in rural Maple City, KS on a call regarding an unresponsive 2 year old.

The child was laid down for a nap by the mother. When the child woke up, it was able to unlock the front door of the home and enter the family vehicle outside.

The child was later located by the mother unconscious and unresponsive inside the vehicle. The child was later pronounced dead at a hospital in South-Central Kansas.

A preliminary autopsy indicated that the child died from excessive heat exposure. The Cowley County Sheriff’s Office said that their investigation into the incident concluded that no foul play was involved in the child’s death.
