Red Cross says winter weather has affected blood donations

The American Red Cross is urging healthy individuals to donate blood, specifically Type O.

The organization says that the extreme winter weather has caused a significant impact on blood and platelet donations.

In Kansas and Oklahoma specifically, over 1,060 donations have gone uncollected. Across the nation, over 15,000 blood and platelet donations have gone uncollected–all of which are due to the winter storms across the country causing the cancellation of hundreds of Red Cross blood drives in roughly 30 states.

Dial 1-800-RED-CROSS (1-800-733-2767) for more information, or visit www.redcross.org/local/kansas.html to learn more about current and upcoming blood donation opportunities through March 15th.
