The Sedgwick County Health Department has received its first shipment of the COVID-19 vaccine. Health Department staff and EMS personnel are among the first people who will get the vaccine.
Kansas Senator Jerry Moran visited the Robert J. Dole VA Medical Center in Wichita Wednesday morning, then he went to Wesley Medical Center to get an update on the vaccine distribution. Moran posted a photo on Twitter showing him with a box of the Moderna vaccine. He said he will continue to make sure the Veterans Administration has the necessary resources to administer the vaccine to the nation’s veterans and the medical staff who cares for them.
The Dole VA Center received 1,000 doses of the Moderna vaccine and began vaccinating staff. Bruce Watson, a 96-year-old Veteran of World War II received the first shot to be administered to residents of the community living center. By the end of the day, all Veterans in the center had been vaccinated.
The vaccines in Kansas are going to high-risk health care workers and to staff and residents of long-term care facilities. Governor Kelly said the state expects to receive 49,000 doses of the Moderna vaccine by the end of the week. A shipment of around 17,500 doses from Pfizer will be received this week. Kelly said another 17,500 doses are expected from Pfizer next week, along with 20,000 doses from Moderna.
