Two Kansas girls found safe, AMBER Alert canceled

UPDATE:  Kansas AMBER Alert officials said late Saturday that two missing Leavenworth girls were found safe and their father was taken into custody in Oklahoma.  The Oklahoma Highway Patrol stopped a vehicle near the town of Erick and found the 7-year-old Nora Jackson and 3-year-old Aven Jackson.   The AMBER Alert was canceled.

(previous story)

Law enforcement agencies in northeast Kansas are looking for two missing girls and their father after two boys were found dead in a home in Leavenworth.

Leavenworth County deputies were called to a home around 1:15 p.m. Saturday and found two young boys dead inside.   Two girls, 7-year-old Nora Jackson and 3-year-old Aven Jackson, were missing from the home.  The suspect is the girls’ father, 40-year-old Donny Jackson.   An AMBER Alert was issued in Kansas and Missouri, and later extended to Oklahoma and Arkansas.

Officials are looking for Jackson’s car, a black 2008 Honda Accord with a Kansas license plate of 266 MXB.  It’s not known which direction Jackson was believed to have taken from the home.  It was reported that the car had been stopped for an unrelated violation by the Kansas Highway Patrol on Highway 169 near the Oklahoma border.  It’s now believed that Jackson may be traveling in Oklahoma, Texas or Arkansas.

Anyone with information should call their local 911 or the Kansas Bureau of Investigation at 1-800-KS-CRIME.
